The front door is what people see when they approach your home. It is the entrance for stepping into your home, so you must ensure that your front door meets people’s expectations. You can make your front door designs so jazzy that it will make a great first impression. It will also be a precursor to what people can expect regarding décor when they enter your abode.
You can and should take the time and make an effort to add a few touches to your front door so that people have an impression of warmth and a welcoming feeling as they are about to enter. The best part is that it is not too challenging and takes some thought to get the right idea. Here are some of the aspects that you can work with to make things look better:
The color of your door: There are very few rules concerning this. It is pretty much up to you and your personal preferences when you pick the color of your door. But at this juncture, we would like to point out that it should gel with the rest of the decoration motifs and color theme. It does not mean that things must match a T; you can go in for contrast, too, but make sure the effect is not jarring. If you want to make a strong statement, you should go for something bright, and if you want to add a touch of sophistication, then go for something dramatic and dark.
The lighting outside the door: Another factor once you have picked the color of the door that you need to consider is the lighting. There are many types of lighting for you to choose from. You can go in with general lighting or go for an old-world feel with lighting that looks like lanterns. These class up the place and give out an aura of warmth. For a more science-fiction look, you can use lighting in different shades.
Play with the house number: By playing in this instance, we mean the way you will display it and not with the actual numbers. You can choose to go with something simple, minimal, or extensive and dramatic. Lighting can be tweaked to make this more visible.
Knobs and handles: Another thing that can make your door stand out is the knob on the door and handle. There are many options in this area, from the classical, the new age, the whimsical, the antique, or even the weird if that is what you want to go with. Just make sure that it works with the rest of the elements on the door, like the color, the display of the house number, and the lighting.
Door knockers are probably people’s favorite when considering the door’s look. They are usually made from metal and are available as per the designs. You have everything from a basic ring to intricately cast animals, dragons, or floral motifs.
Doorbells: Though one may think that these are pretty basic and may not have many choices, the fact is that you can make your doorbell seem attractive by placing a nodding head or some such thing to make it more interesting.
While considering the decorative aspects, the overall look of your front door needs to consider durability, too. The door is open to the elements and has to withstand all types of weather. Plus, the wear and tear on front doors is more due to the extent of usage. You must factor in all these aspects and be sturdy enough to protect your home. Some of the examples are below:
