Guy Shows How To Make Glow-In-The-Dark Table With Photoluminescent Resin

As high-tech and alien as this glow-in-the-dark table might seem, it can actually be made right at home! All you need is a few planks of Pecky cypress wood, photoluminescent powder, resin, some tools, and a little elbow grease.

Mike Warren an Instructables enthusiast and the blogger behind the Man Crafts column at, came up with a set of instructions for creating this table. By mixing the photoluminescent powder with the resin and using it to fill the holes that form naturally in Pecky cypress wood, you can create beautiful and naturally-shaped areas that will glow in the dark after charging up on sunlight.

If you’ve got the tools and the know-how, then check out Warren’s Instructable for instructions. His video of the table and how it looks can be found below, as can his answers to Bored Panda’s questions about his work. Take a look!

“I thought of this project after browsing the aisles at a lumber store and seeing Pecky Cypress,” Mike Warren told Bored Panda. “I’ve never seen anything like it and knew I wanted to make something with it”

“As an avid woodworker, I’ve seen clear casting resin applied to tabletops as a protective finish and to fill voids from knots. Using this same technique that’s been around for ages, I just added the twist of glow powder”

“After the resin had cured, I took the table top out into the sun and was amazed at how much it glowed when I brought it back inside. It’s really like magic and something that isn’t quite captured in pictures or video”

“It’s been about 3 months since I made the table and it’s still doing great! It sits in the lab at work and it glows every night as I pass by it on my way home”

“The response has been overwhelming and I am getting requests from all over the world to make tables for people. I am starting the process to get ready to manufacture custom tables for people. People can find me on my Etsy shop to start the conversation about table orders”

I’m a professional Design Engineer and make all kinds of things that blend functionality with whimsical absurdity, so this table fits squarely into the types of things I make

Thank you, Mike Warren, for talking to Bored Panda about your awesome DIY work. Keep on tinkering!
